Diwali will be celebrated on 12th November 2023, Sunday. Then, on the fourth day, there will be Govardhan Puja. For Bhai Dooj, the celebrations to nurture the sibling bond, the Dwitiya Tithi will start on the 14th November, 2023 in the afternoon and will end on the 15th November, 2023 afternoon. People may celebrate Bhai Dooj on both days.
Deepawali 2023: Significance, Rituals and Traditions
This much-awaited and most sacred festival is the celebration of the day when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya with Mata Sita and Brother Lakshman after a banvaas of fourteen years and defeated Ravana. People have welcomed them by lighting the diyas or lamps.
In Bengal, on this significant festival, Maa Kali is being worshipped. It is known as Shyama Puja or Kali Puja, which is performed at night.
This five-day festival starts with Dhanteras, which is known as auspicious for buying gold, silver and other new items. The second day is called Choti Diwali or Naraka Chaturdashi. On this day, people light lamps outside their houses to remove negativity. The third day is the primary day of Diwali, when people wear new clothes, decorate their houses, and worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. The fourth day marks the Govardhan Puja when the devotees worship Lord Krishna. The fifth day is the Bhai Dooj, which is celebrated to strengthen the sibling bond.
On the day of Diwali, people decorate their houses with mesmerizing Rangolis and light their houses with lamps and candles. People also send wishes to each other and offer gifts and sweets.
