India is a land of splendid culture, traditions and history, and there are plenty of festivals celebrated with joy and merriment. Every festival is different in its charm and way. Pohela Boishakh or Poila Baisakh, as known in the Bengali community, or Bengali New Year, is celebrated there with great enthusiasm and zeal. This year it will fall or be celebrated on 15th April 2022. This day marks the beginning of the spring and harvest season. People wish Shubho Nobo Borsho or Happy New Year to everyone, on this day. It is celebrated across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, Bangladesh and Tripura. People start their day by cleaning their houses and wearing new traditional clothes. People also visit the temples and offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on this day to bring happiness, prosperity and good luck. This day is also important for all the business owners as for them it marks the beginning of the Financial Year. All the business owners open the new ledger book on this day. People also prepare delicious meals and enjoy them with their families and friends. They also decorate their houses and purchase silver and gold items. Also, Good Friday or Holy Friday will be observed on 15th April, followed by Easter (17th April 2022, Sunday). People pray in church and gain blessings. Good Friday symbolizes Jesus Christ’s sufferings and sacrifices. We wish you Shubho Nobo Borsho to everyone! May this day mark the beginning of a happy life full of prosperity for all of you.
