India is a country of multiple traditions, rituals, and cultures. Lots of festivals are celebrated here. All these festivals bring liveliness and charm to our lives in numerous ways. One such festival is known as Maha Shivratri, which is celebrated with total energy and devotion by the devotees of Lord Shiva. This year it will be celebrated on March 01, 2022 Tuesday. It is a major Hindu festival celebrated in honor of Lord Shiva. It is a great festival of convergence of Shiva and Shakti. It falls on the Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha in the month of Magha. However, Maha Shivratri happens to be only once every year in February or March, which is considered the end of winter and marks the beginning of the spring and summer. The Chaturdashi Tithi will begin at 3:16 AM on March 01 and end at 1:00 AM on March 02. To celebrate this auspicious and holy day, one can participate in fasting, visiting temples, mediation, chanting “Om Namaha Shivaye,” worshipping Shivalinga, and attending the Rudra Puja. Devotees offer dhatura, sugarcane, plum, bhang, and sandalwood to Lord Shiva and married female devotees offer bangles, bindi, and sindoor to Mata Parwati. Devotees who keep fast on this day avoid eating salt. Celebrate this holy and auspicious festival with all the devotion and faith in Shiva and Shakti.
