The festival of Karwa Chauth holds great significance in Hinduism. This date is also called Karaka Chaturthi or Sankashthi Chaturthi. This year it will be celebrated on 24th October.   On this day, married women keep fast for the long life of their husbands. This fast is being observed every year on the Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik month’s Krishna Paksha. The fast is broken after the sighting of the moon, and the husband makes the fast to be finished after making her wife drink water from his hands. On this day, during the early morning, the married woman takes a bath before sunrise and takes Sargi. This Sargi is being offered by her mother-in-law. After this, the woman has to observe Nirjala Fast for the entire day. Then the woman waits for the sight of the moon and ends her fast by offering Arghya to the moon. In the evening, all the women sit together and recite the fast story. Arghya is offered to the moon from the Karva or Karaka or Pitcher.  On October 24, the auspicious time for the worship is from 5:43 PM to 6:59 PM. After this, the moon will be visible at 8:07 PM, and the married woman will be able to break the fast. Happy Karwa Chauth!
