The Jagannath Rath Yatra, also called Chariot Celebration of Lord Jagannath, his sister Devi Subhadra, and brother Lord Balabhadra is one of the most famous and significant festivals in the Puri City of Odisha. This festival is celebrated annually on the Shukla Paksha’s second day in June or July. It is one of India’s oldest and most popular Rath Yatra. This year it will fall on Friday, the 1st of July 2022, and the Ashadh Shukla Dwitiya Tithi begins at 10:49 AM on the 30th of June and finishes on the 1st of July at 01:09 PM. That is why the Jagannath Yatra will be celebrated on Friday, the 1st of July. It is believed that Lord Jagannath Srihari is one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu. Jagannath signifies Lord (Natha) of the Universe (Jaga). On this day, the three chariots of all the lords will be pulled by the large crowd. The chariots are being constructed by the Shrimandir carpenters, known as Bhoi Sevayats. And the woods are also collected from the special forests known as Dasapalla. The three statues are cleansed, dressed, and shifted from Jagannath temple to Gundicha temple in a large ceremony. Devotees believe that Lord Jagannath lives in the Gundicha temple for seven days, and then he visits back to his main abode. Visiting the temple around this time is seen to be significantly auspicious. During the return yatra, i.e., Bahuda Yatra, Lord also visits the Mausi Maa Temple in dedication to the Goddess Ardhashini. The three statues are bathed with 108 pots of water on the Jyeshtha Purnima, and that ceremony is called the Sahstradhara Snan.
