On this holy day, sisters apply tilak on the forehead of their brothers and pray for their success, prosperity, happiness and long life. It has great significance and importance for sisters as they wait for this festival with great charm. During this whole day, sisters worship and keep fast and recite Katha and put tilak on their brother’s forehead. It is believed that the sisters, on this day, pray to Yama for the long life of the brothers. Similarly, brothers also pledge to protect and safeguard their sisters and give them gifts. Considering astrology, the auspicious time for tilak to their brothers is between 1:10 PM and 3:21 PM, which signifies that the whole Muhurat is for 2 hours and eleven minutes.
