The term Basant Panchami comprises two words – Basant (Spring) and Panchami (fifth day). The students also worship Devi Saraswati and there are special arrangements in the schools and colleges.

When is Saraswati Puja 2025?

This sacred festival of Saraswat Puja usually falls in January end or February. This year, the celebrations for this festival will happen on 2nd February 2025, Sunday. The Panchami Tithi will begin on 2nd February, Sunday, at 9:15 AM, and will end at 6:53 AM on 3rd February, Monday. As per the best astrologer, it is auspicious to perform Saraswati Puja for this festival during the Panchami Tithi.

Rituals, Significance, and Celebrations of Basant Panchami

As we all know, the devotees worship Goddess Saraswati on this day, and there are special celebrations in the schools and colleges. During the Puja ceremony, the students also keep their books, copies, pens, and pencils near the Goddess idol and get her divine blessings to enlighten their life path.

People wear yellow-colored clothes and prepare yellow-colored dishes. These include kesar halwa, kesar kheer, yellow rice, khichdi, and many others. People also distribute these food items to their family, and loved ones. The devotees visit temples and offer yellow-color flowers and clothes to Goddess Saraswati. In some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, there is a tradition of flying kites. The children and elders both participate in the kite flying competitions. In West Bengal, there is a tradition to make toddlers start their studies on this auspicious day.
